We are delighted to announce the Women in Governance and Politics Conference 2020 (#WIGPConference2020) supported by the Open Society Initiative for West Africa and in collaboration with AriseTV, Women in Politics Forum, Cilia & Akai Media House and UTO Foundation. The theme of #WIGPConference2020 is ‘Constitutional Amendment for Equal Opportunities’.
Nigeria clocks 60 in a few weeks. Coincidentally, another opportunity for constitutional amendment is at our door step. It is imperative that in the conversation on the future of Nigeria and in the latest process of amending our laws that the future and rights of Nigerian women are front and centre. Nigerian make up almost half of the nation’s population. A nation cannot progress when half of its people do not enjoy the right to maximize their functionality in the society. This conference seeks to set the tone toward s gender consideration in constitutional amendment.
The conference will be a gathering of eminent political and corporate leaders, who are strong advocates of gender balanced systems, inclusive decision-making processes and the economic empowerment of women.
The conference will hold on Monday, September 21 from 1pm to 3pm on AriseTV. Our audience will have the extraordinary opportunity to hear from high-level speakers talking on the need for constitutional amendments that will improve inclusive decision-making processes and balanced political representation.
The conversations from this conference will immensely contribute to the needed recommendations on the Proposed Constitution Amendment by the National Assembly.
